Week 28- Roux, Bread and Greens..OH MY!!!‏‏

Dear Family!!

How are ya'll doing? Things are going great here! Sister V is doing slightly better. Thank you for your prayers in hers and my behalf.
We have been teaching some wonderful people and I have some stories for you!
This week we taught some great lessons that are worth mentioning. The first is a father and daughter we found last week. They are related to a family in the ward which is really cool. So we stopped by there house on Thursday evening and taught them the first lesson. We did how to begin teaching really well and I am so excited because I feel like there "train" is off to a good start. So i will explain the train.. There are different cars to each investigators train. The engine of the Train is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Some of the cars include Revelation through church attendance, Book of Mormon, Prayer and how to begin teaching. When they are not progressing in a certain area or something has not been taught to them well enough that part of the car will detach itself from the train and before you know it the gospel of Jesus Christ, the engine of there train will chug away without them.  ( I hope that makes sense) So this is why we are so careful to make sure they understand our purpose as missionaries and that all the cars in there train are attached and running smoothly. back to the dad and daughter... We have set them with a baptismal date for December 17th, yet they have to come to church a few times before they can get baptized and they did not make it to church on Sunday, so we will probably be pushing there date back.
There is another family we found. We will call them Jenika and Madelin. Jenika is the mom and the daughter, Madelin, is 11 years old. We went over on Wednesday before book of mormon class to see how they were doing. We found them a few months ago when we were tracting around our apartment. Then they mysteriously moved! We got a hold of Madelin on the phone who gave us there new address, and we went to go see them. When we got there Madelin was not there but we had a great visit with Jenika and set up a return appointment for Tuesday afternoon. Very exciting! She said that there copy of the Book of Mormon got lost in the move, but her and Madelin had read some from it and Madelin is very interested and keeps bugging her to take her to church and Achievement days. We are so excited for them to progress in the gospel. There is a dad and another little girl in the family, age 3. I will report more on them next week. They did not come to church this week..but that is ok! we will get them next week :)
Next... we were 5-5-5ing a less-active and met this lady we will call Anne. She was really lonely and told us all about her medical history and how she had just gotten a pace maker put in. Also how her kids were awful to her and they were just waiting for her to die so they could sell all her stuff. In a nut shell not so good. we felt so bad for her. We loaned her a copy of the book of mormon and invited her to come to church. She said she liked talking to us because we made her feel better and also made it a point to tell us that she needed Satan to leave her alone! We said a prayer with her ( I got prayer talked) and we sung her a hymn and finally were able to leave. ( This was Thursday that we met her) So come Friday afternoon after weekly planning we get a phone call from an unknown number. We let it go to voice mail after listening to the voice mail we found out it was Anne! The voice mail was not as pleasant as we would have liked.. she told us that she had talked to her preacher and he told her that we are not allowed to go door to door like that and tell people to change there religion. She also asked us not to come back and she did not want to see us again. Kind of funny, you just have to laugh sometimes. We just keep praying that she will accept the gospel one day!

It is made more and more apparent to me everyday who is really prepared to receive the gospel and who is not. Some people's hearts are so hardened to the truth. There are also so many i have met that are as Paul put it.. "...that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy..."(2Tim 3:1-2)

We visited with another girl who is awesome! She is 11 going on 12 and is really concerned though which church to get baptized into. We tried to share with her how our church has the proper priesthood authority. We just hope and pray that there family will start coming back to church so they can enjoy the blessings that come from living a gospel centered life.

Last but not least! We were able to go over the a man in the ward who makes the sacrament bread and he taught us how to make bread, greens and a roux! Sister V and I perfected the art of all three. Look out world here we come... The one thing I must say that was really neat about making the bread was that the bread that I made was used for the sacrament the next day. It was an amazing experience to know that the bread that I had made was being eaten by the members of the ward during there renewal of there baptismal covenant. I do not really know how to explain it except that I felt such gratitude for my savior, in a different way then i ever had before. It was like I had put something different on the alter that week and my offering to the Savior that week was different then it ever had been before. I do not know if that makes sense, but it was really neat.

Also very cool that I can make a Roux!! When I get home were going to have Gumbo for sure! :)

Hope you have a great week! I love ya'll so much and hope your holiday is getting off to a great Christ centered start.
Love you!

Scripture: 3Nephi 11:31-39 After Christ comes to the people in the Americas, the first thing he does is give them the authority to baptize. Following this the next thing he does is teaches them the Doctrine of Christ. These scriptures are some of my favorite that outline his doctrine or gospel.
